I complete this painting in 2016 (or so I thought), but the foreground kept bothering me.
I decided it needed more work. Much better now.

'Yellow Peonies'

The blooming season for yellow peonies seems to be very short... at least from a painter's perspective. And they certainly don't care to bloom anywhere in Arizona. At least I've never heard of peonies blooming in Arizona. It's a pity.
As such, I was very happy to find these yellow peonies from the local florist... very happy.
It can be tricky to find them and I needed to finish up this painting begun last year.
I think yellow peonies are really beautiful... extraordinary.
There are some David Austin roses from the garden in this mix, too. They have been exploding with blossoms lately... happily blooming in Arizona.

The roses in the garden have begun to recover from the summer's severe heat... these are among the first to go into the studio. It is sure nice to have them blooming nicely again!

The roses from the garden are 'few and far between' after the summer heat. I was happy to find a few that were nice to paint...
This little painting will be available through the Beaux Arts Show and Sale to be held at the Scottsdale Artists' School on Saturday, November 12th.

David Austin's 'Benjamin Britton' roses are a bit old-fashioned... very sweet with their deep pink... or pink-red... colored petals. I love them. I think they are going to be included in many new paintings to come!

The Gambel's Quail are busy these days, trying to find a good nesting place to lay their eggs. I found this little egg a few years ago in the gutter at the side of the street... it's a beautiful little egg.

Our potted ornamental sweet potato vines have been growing like crazy lately... along with the grapevine and its tiny purple grapes. Such tiny grapes. And such a lot of them... and they're so very sweet!
This painting was awarded the 'FAV 15%' award by the Fine Art Studio Online 'Bold Brush' online painting competition for July 2015.

A little painting for a friend who has been going through wretched chemotherapy. She can't receive fresh flowers so when I found her favorites at the market, they became a gift in a painting… pink peonies!

Lisianthus and Darby

Pink Lisianthus and Abraham Darby roses are among my favorite flowers from the garden… they do fine in our hot summer months.
Even after cutting the Lisianthus and putting them in a vase, they last for weeks… nearly as if I just picked them! They're wonderful.
And, for some reason unknown to me, the images on this blog aren't showing as well as they do on the website. I have heard other artists complain about the same problem. I will need to spend some time researching and resolving that issue.
At any rate, here is a link to the image on the website for a little better look at one of my favorite subject matters to paint.
